Athletic THERAPY

What is Athletic Therapy?

“Adhering to the Sports Medicine Model of care, Athletic Therapists are best known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional athletes. The first to respond when someone gets hurt, they are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. They treat a wide range of patients from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery, using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist’s goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.” ~ Canadian Athletic Therapy Association (CATA)

Athletic Therapy involves:

  • Assessment/Reassessment
  • Manual Treatment
  • Exercise Prescription
  • Modality Application
  • Education
  • Home Program Development

*At We-Fix-U, every treatment plan is individualized and catered to each patient specific to their injury, lifestyle, and rehabilitation goals*

Athletic Therapy Spectrum of Care:

Who would benefit from seeing an Athletic Therapist?

Athletic therapists are highly skilled in returning athletes to competition and maximizing their performance as soon as possible after an injury. However, athletic therapy isn’t just for athletes, athletic therapy is for everyone. Whether you are a 18 year old competitive soccer player, a 35 year old rec league basketball player, or a 70 year old avid walker, we are all athletes in our own way. The same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills make athletic therapists effective in treating daily musculoskeletal injuries (muscles, joints, bones) sustained by everyday Canadians.

Common Conditions Athletic Therapists can Treat

  • Common injuries from sports and daily activities (falls, back pain from exercising, neck pain from work, strains and sprains, etc)
  • Chronic and recurring conditions, pre-surgery and post-surgery
  • Emergencies at sporting events such as concussion, fractures, and spinal injuries
  • Workplace and motor vehicle accidents

Benefits of Athletic Therapy

  • Increase flexibility and range of motion throughout the body
  • Reduce joint and muscle pain
  • Increase in strength and balance
  • Strength and Conditioning
  • Returning to work and sport pain free
  • Learning various injury prevention techniques to avoid another injury in the future

An injury doesn’t necessarily need to be present in order for an individual to seek out athletic therapy services. Athletic therapists are able to provide preventative guidance as well as reconditioning/conditioning for performance improvement.

What We-Fix-U patients are saying:

I wanted to send a huge thank you to the therapist and the Port Hope team for getting my daughter Aidan ready for her summer of rodeo. Without your amazing team she would not have been ready to compete this summer and would still be in considerable pain as taking time off riding is not an option she would consider.

The therapist worked with her to make sure she was comfortable with all of the stretches and exercises so that she could continue them on her own and it’s working. She is stronger and feeling better than ever.
