I have hip pain, what are my treatment options?
The most commonly prescribed treatment options are:
Consistent study findings have shown bed rest is NOT an effective treatment for acute pain. My advice is to stay active and continue ordinary modified activities, which will result in a faster return to work, play and decrease other compensatory problems.
Medication is sometimes necessary to help patients cope with severe pain. However, medication only masks the pain and doesn’t address the true root of the problem. My advice is to treat the underlying cause of the pain, which will help prevent the development of a chronic condition or reoccurrence.
Referral to a Specialist
Most specialists end up prescribing conservative treatments such as Physiotherapy to their patients before exploring riskier options such as surgery.
Physiotherapy is your best option. Physiotherapy is a science of assessing and restoring motion. Which in turn improves your function and relieves your pain. Physiotherapy is non-invasive with no side effects and therapy is your most cost-effective solution. Physiotherapists can relieve your pain quickly when treated early, which in turn saves you money.
